Podcasts: The golden age of talk radio and why they should be in your playlist.

Whether it’s an ancient folktale passed on just by word of mouth, old nursery rhymes, or even a classic novel, stories have been a part of our lives since the very beginning of mankind. Now, with a little innovation and technology, another platform for voices to be heard has emerged.

Podcasts.

It took me a while to hop on the podcast train because when I’m in the mood to listen to something, it’s usually music I turn to first. In my spare time I couldn’t bring myself to want to listen to what is essentially talk radio, I just figured I would be bored by it. It reminded me of when I was little, just old enough to sit in the front seat of the car with my dad and how he would listen to radio stations where all they would do is talk. Why would I want to listen that now?

<——-But then I saw this clip of the Joe Rogan Experience on youtube and it was like the bait on the hook. It reeled me in. It blew my mind that people were out there talking about topics that are actually important and things we can all relate to. And of course I love that it’s uncensored and there’s all the freedom in the world to say whatever you want.

So from there, the curiosity got me and before I knew it, podcasts alone opened so many doors. By introducing new books, new music, new ways of thinking and new ways of holding yourself accountable, podcasts have helped shape me into a better, more knowledgable person. It felt like my whole life got taken to the next level by having such easy access to a world filled with fresh ideas.

I sometimes get into these slumps where I can’t seem to find the drive within myself to get up and make each day count. It happens, it’s part of life. But if you think I’m going to go buy a cheesy self help book filled from cover to cover with cliche positive quotes, you might be getting me mixed up with someone else. If that works for you, that’s totally cool, but either way I think that hearing people just like us speak on how they evolved into more productive individuals is the perfect kick in the ass for those days where you just don’t feel like functioning.

There are podcasts out there on every topic you can imagine. Don’t be afraid to expand your mind, learn something new everyday and hear people’s stories.

Thanks for reading!
